3 Police Officers Killed in Samburu

Three police officers were killed and several others were injured on Wednesday night while tracking stolen goats in Samburu.

Reports indicate that the incident took place at Archers Post on the Samburu-Isiolo–Laikipia border and was carried out by suspected cattle rustlers.

Seven other officers sustained serious injuries and are currently recuperating in hospital.

Samburu County police commander Alfred Ageng’o confirmed the attack and revealed that a peace crusader who accompanied the police was also killed.

"We lost three police officers in the attack. More security personnel have been deployed to the area to pursue the assailants," stated Ageng'o.

Two of those killed were attached to Wamba police station whereas one was from Archers Post.

In February, two people were killed and more than 1000 herd of cattle stolen by armed bandits in Suyian area of Samburu North.

The cattle raiders, suspected to be from the neighbouring communities also drove away 1200 goats.

Three people were left with gunshot wounds after more than 100 rustlers ambushed the herders who were taking their livestock back home from Namuranyang grazing field. 

In 2012, around 40 police officers lost their lives in Suguta Valley after an attack by cattle rustlers.

It later emerged that a number of them were not experienced and were not familiar with the area.
