Kenya Shines in Global Athletics and Rugby Events

Sunday was a bevy of Kenyan sports excellence with athletes representing the country in various global events.

Kenyan sportsmen and women dominated in athletics and rugby competitions.

#ParisMarathon

In a superb show of dominance, Kenya swept the 2018 Paris Marathon race winning both the men and women's events

Paul Lonyangata clocked 2:6:21 to become the second man in history to win the marathon title back-to-back by defending his men's crown.

Mathew Kisorio came second behind Lonyangta in 2:06.36. Ernest Ngeno came third in 2:06.41 to make it a Kenyan sweep.

US-based Betsy Saina won the women's event in a time of 2:22:56.

#RotterdamMarathon

The impressive performance was replicated in the Rotterdam Marathon with Kenyans atop the medals table.

Kenneth Kipkemoi bagged the gold in a time of 02:05:44 while Visiline Jepkesho won the Women's race in 02:23:45.

HongKong7s

Kenya Sevens team #Shujaa on Sunday beat New Zealand 12-21 in the semi-finals of the Hong Kong Sevens to book a place in the main cup final against Fiji.

Kenya, however, lost the final played at 2.00 PM to Fiji 12-24, with 2 yellow cards for Ambaka and Injera in the first half having given Fiji a 2-man advantage.

Equally impressive were the Kenyan female team "The Lionesses" who made it to the semifinals of the HongKong7s.

Commonwealth Games

African champion Samuel Gathimba won Kenya her first medal in the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia winning bronze in the men’s 20 kilometres walking race.

Kenya's Edward Zakayo won Kenya it's second bronze medal behind Gold medalist Joshua Kiprui Cheptegei of Uganda, silver medalist Mohammed Ahmed of Canada.

Sunday was also First Lady Margaret Kenyatta's birthday.
