Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua Takes Wavinya Ndeti to Court Over Defamation Claims

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua on Tuesday filed a suit against his former gubernatorial challenger Wavinya Ndeti over defamation allegations.

Through his lawyers, the County boss served Ms Ndeti with a court order issuing three demands following her claims that Mr Mutua is allegedly threatening her life.

In a statement seen by Kenyans.co.ke, Mutua's lawyers noted: "We demand an immediate admission of liability for defamation of our client's character, whereupon assessment for the quantum of damages may be commenced.

"We also demand unqualified public apology published through your official Facebook page and widely circulated in other media," reads part of the statement.

Additionally, the Maendeleo Chap Chap Party leader's team also added: "We demand an undertaking not to henceforth engage in unfounded propaganda against our client."

Mutua's statements come in the wake of the former Kathiani MP divulging that she has spent two days at Machakos Police Station and Muthangari Police Station.

She confirmed to Kenyans.co.ke that she had been at the stations to report the Machakos Governor in connection with suspicious surveillance of her home.

Wavinya mentioned that she believes the governor intends to harm her.

"I've said it before and it is true. Mutua wants to do something bad to me and I stand by my statement. This has been happening since 2013, " she accused.

On Monday, Ms Ndeti posted details of a drive-by accident at her home on her Facebook page pointing accusing fingers at the governor.
