A section of church leaders from Lower Eastern Region distanced themselves from Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka's 2022 presidential bid.
They criticised the 'Koma Declaration' which saw various professionals and elders vow to support Musyoka in the next election saying the meeting was driven by selfish motives.
Led by Archbishop Arthur Kitonga, the president of Association of Evangelicals in Eastern Africa, the 20 leaders condemned similar meetings 'aimed at detaching the community from the government.'
They further added that they will hold a different meeting next month to deliberate on how the region can improve its economy.

“The meeting was only for political interests. There were no concerns on development and that is its undoing.
“Our people are being swept by floods and as a result, people need help for food and other things. How can we ask the state to step in when our leaders are pushing conflicting interests?” posed Kitonga.
His sentiments were echoed their secretary-general Joel Nzomo who condemned a section of politicians, saying they were misleading the public yet they have nothing to offer them.
“Some have been in power for many years and they have nothing substantial to show.
"We say enough is enough,” he remarked.
Earlier this month, Kamba leaders held a meeting to discuss Musyoka's future in the National Super Alliance (NASA).
All leaders, including those from non-Nasa parties, were invited to the meeting at Koma Ranch in Machakos county.
Politicians, religious leaders, professionals, and residents of Machakos, Kitui and Makueni counties attended the meeting.
This came against the backdrop of President Uhuru Kenyatta and Nasa leader Raila Odinga's unity handshake.
