OCS Killed After Vehicle Runs Him Over

An Officer Commanding Police Station (OCS) was on Saturday killed when a Toyota Probox ran him over in Kericho County.

Confirming the incident, Kericho Police Commander James Mugera stated that Roret OCS Hussein Ngonga was knocked down by the vehicle that was reversing at the town's trading centre in Bureti Constituency.

Among those who were first at the scene was Kisiara Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA), Gilbert Ngetich who disclosed that the officer was standing behind the Probox when it reversed downhill and ran him over.

“The officer was standing behind the Probox vehicle when it revered on its own and knocked down the police officer. The Probox driver had apparently forgotten to apply the handbrake after parking the vehicle beside the uphill road,” Ngetich conveyed.

According to reports, the OCS was following up on another case where a drunken man had fallen and drowned in Kipranye River.

He was waiting for a local team of divers to guide them to the scene when the accident happened at the Roret-Kipranye road junction.

Ngonga was rushed to Roret Health Centre where he was pronounced dead.

An officer at the scene told reporters that they were carrying out investigations including questioning the driver to establish the circumstances that caused the accident.

Meanwhile, in Nairobi, 10 people escaped with minor injuries when the matatu they were travelling in hit a tree along Waiyaki Way.

According to reports, the driver of the matatu was trying to avoid a head-on collision with another vehicle when he swerved and hit the tree.
