Kipchumba Murkomen Denies Senators' Plot to Replace Governors

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen on Monday dismissed claims that he was working to undermine and replace Governor Alex Tolgos during the next general election.

Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV, the Senate Majority leader defended his role in the county adding that he was involved in oversight on the usage of the funds which should not be misconstrued to undermining the county boss.

“People must live with the idea that a Senator’s responsibility is to fight for oversight. You cannot, on one hand, cry that corruption is thriving yet when we deal with it you say that we are undermining governors,” he stated.

The two time Senator further warned corrupt leaders that their days were numbered and should not use their offices as a shield against the law.

“Crime never rots. If anyone thinks that they left office and are sitting pretty, they will still be brought to account.

“And if those who are in the office think that the fact that they’re in office is a shield for them, that is a momentary and temporary shield. The wheels of justice will still keep rolling and, when the time comes, the axe will be on their necks," he conveyed.

In the run up to the August 2017 elections, the Senator and Governor Tolgos were at loggerheads over the development track in the county.

In the Jubilee primaries, Murkomen supported Jackson Kiptanui for the governorship seat.

However, Tolgos clinched the party ticket and went ahead to retain his seat.

During the Elgeyo Marakwet Governor's swearing-in, Murkomen promised to work with the county head as the two put aside their differences in a bid to unite the county.

“Governor Tolgos and I have been friends since school days. We used to play on this ground. Tolgos played hockey in one corner and I played Football in another,” Murkomen stated.
