Gideon Moi Visits Kenneth Matiba's Riara Home

Baringo Senator Gideon Moi on Monday paid a visit to the home of departed veteran politician Kenneth Matiba's home in Limuru to convey his condolences.

Senator Moi's visit came amid concerns that were raised over his father's - former President Daniel Arap Moi - apparent silence on the passing of the Nyayo-era politician.

The senator further silenced speculations which purported that the former president's silence had to do with his detention of Matiba ahead of the 1992 multi-party edict.

Senator Moi was seen in the company of former activist Koigi Wamwere, Kenneth Matiba's widow Edith and various members of the Matiba family including his children.

Earlier on Monday, Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia who was leading the funeral planning committee invited all Kenyans to join the family in the various memorial services to be held before the final send-off.

"On Wednesday from Lee Funeral, we shall turn right towards Haile Selassie Avenue then through Uhuru Park to All Saints Cathedral. Thursday the procession starts at Lee Funeral through Forest Road to Thika Road and to Ihura Stadium," he stated.

The veteran politician's son, Raymond Matiba, spoke on behalf of the family conveying thanks to the state for honouring their father.

"Ours as a family is just to record our thanks to His Excellency the President for having instructed his government to undertake all the arrangements that have been made thus far for the sendoff of our father.

"We would like to invite as many Kenyans as possible to come to the two venues to give him a sending befitting of a son of Kenya," he urged.

The family has also announced that they will honour the Late Matiba's wish to be cremated upon his death.
