Police Left Confused After Nyandarua Arresting Madman With 33K

The police were on Monday surprised to discover that a man believed to have been a mentally ill beggar in Ol Kalou was in possession of Ksh33,900.

The suspicious character was taken to the Ol Kalou Police Station for questioning where the law enforcement officers realised that he had only been pretending and was, in fact, a drug peddler.

According to area OCPD Wilson Kosgei, the man was working for a known drug dealer in the region they had hoped to capture during the crackdown.

"I got information from members of the public that some peddlers operate from there. Upon arrival, I directed my officers to conduct a search on all the young men in the hall.

"We were shocked to recover that kind of money from a man who has probably not had a bath in weeks," Mr Kosgei relayed.

The officer further described the impeccably organised notes that further proved that the drug peddler was of sound mind.

"The money was well kept, decently folded and arranged according to denominations. He is stinking and we believe that stench is part of his weapon.

"In the cells, the man didn’t display any signs of mental illness and indeed confirmed the amount recorded in the occurrence book is the amount he had," the OCPD revealed.

Nyandarua County Commissioner Boaz Cherotich launched the crackdown early in March warning drug dealers that the law would catch up with them.

"We are cautioning officers who work with cartels and those used to taking money to support their activities...notorious chiefs operating with impunity...honestly...there will be no room for such officers.

"We need to ensure the war on the vice is sustained so gains made after President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered the crackdown two years ago are not lost," he stated.
