Raila Reveals What He Hates Most About Kenyan Job Interviews

NASA leader Raila Odinga on Wednesday revealed what he dislikes most about job interviews in Kenya.

Speaking during the 2018 Devolution Conference in Kakamega, the former Prime Minister urged employers to stop giving jobs based on surnames but focus on merit.

"When a young person goes to do an interview, his or her name can be a blessing or a curse. This is something that we must kill.

"There is nepotism and cronyism in counties. And too many counties are failing to come up with clear pro-youth programmes to address unemployment," he stated.

For a while now, job seekers in Kenya have complained of missing out on opportunities due to their tribes despite having the necessary qualifications.

Odinga shunned this practice and urged Kenyans to embrace one another and appreciate the different cultures available in the country.

On matters devolution, the opposition chief stressed the importance of good governance and political leadership to its success.

"Good leaders need a vision for the work they set out to do and a clear mission on how to pursue the vision. Often, such vision and mission are stated in a Manifesto.

"In a county, the governor’s manifesto must find its way into the County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP) to inform social and economic transformation.

"Implementing manifestos cannot be done unless the governor knits together a team that can deliver. You are therefore as good as your team," he asserted.
