Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho has taken a swipe at Deputy President William Ruto over his opposition towards the possible amendment of the Constitution.
DP Ruto has remained adamant against calls for referendum to amend the Constitution terming it a waste of time.
Speaking in Kakamega on Wednesday, though not taking a direct jab at Ruto, Joho stated that the constitutional amendment was an unstoppable process and no single individual should claim to have a supreme say.

In a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, Joho states: "Kitu moja nataka niseme, hii Katiba ni ya wakenya, kuna watu wengine wanaona kama ni yao. Hii apana yao (I want to make it clear, the constitution belongs to Kenyans although some people feel more entitled to it. I want to remind them they do not own the Constitution).
"Siku tukitaka kubadilisha tutabadilisha. Bora iwe ni kwa manufaa ya mwananchi (If we one day decide to amend it, we will do so. Only that anticipated constitutional changes will be for the benefit of the citizens)."
The move which is likely to renew the political rivalry between him and DP Ruto, as Joho also revisited his bid to ascend to the presidency.
"Wakati ukifika tutavurugana hapa hapa, tutakanyangana hapa hapa 2022 (When the time comes, we will battle it out here fair and square in 2022)," he affirmed.
The ODM deputy party leader also reiterated that his loyalty to NASA leader Raila Odinga remains unwavering.
Joho further stated that he would support Raila in rallying to unite the citizens in the vision of "building bridges to a new Kenyan nation."
We support all initiatives by Odinga to foster inclusivity and cohesion in this great nation. If this includes a referendum for and by the people of Kenya, so be it.

Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, who was also present, indicated that ODM Party was determined to form the next government stating that he would equally join the 2022 presidential race.
