IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba's Team Sent Home

The ongoing wrangles at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) may not end any time soon if the recent development is anything to go by.

Reports indicate that staff in the commission who are attached to CEO Ezra Chiloba were forced to take leave on Friday.

According to the Star, the five include two personal assistants, two secretaries, and an office assistant.

Sources indicate that the move came after the IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati feared that they may end up leaking crucial information to their now suspended boss - Chiloba.

Leaking of such information was likely to jeopardize ongoing investigations in which the Chiloba is accused of overseeing the procurement process which was marred by irregularities.

Chiloba who was sent on a compulsory leave three weeks ago termed the move as a witchhunt.

"Why would anyone take differences between me and the commission to staff or the secretariat?" Chiloba lamented.

Other reports, however, indicate that the staff was asked to take leave since their boss was away hence there was now work they were doing.

Chiloba's who was in charge of secretariat operations has been temporarily replaced by the deputy CEO Hussein Marjan who has his own office staff.

There is division over the fate of the remaining three IEBC commissioners who fall short of the quorum required to transact any serious business after their counterparts resigned including former Vice Chair Consolata Nkatha, Margaret Mwachanya and Paul Kurgat, protesting Chiloba's suspension.
