DP William Ruto Awards Lang'ata Police Officer Ksh1 Million for Singing

A police corporal, Edward Ekidor, who is attached to Lang'ata Police Station was recently awarded Ksh1 million shillings for singing.

The officer was awarded by Deputy President William Ruto during his performance at the Tobong' Lore cultural festival.

The DP and the crowd at the event marvelled at the police's presentation as he performed his 'Turkana is Kenya' song.

According to Ekidor, his song is meant to woo citizens to visit the county which is likened as the cradle of mankind, but had been so marginalised that whenever locals visit other regions, they claimed that they were "going to Kenya."

In his song, Ekidor who was dressed in traditional regalia explained the importance to have the narrative change.

During his performance, dignitaries and locals sprang from their seats to dance to the song that thrilled all guests.

Prior reports divulge that by the time the Ruto was concluding his speech, Ekidor, who was now a discussion among the residents, had been located from the crowds to be awarded.

He notes that he got surprised when the DP's aides when to get him from the crowds.

Ekidor stated: "After the performance, Ruto asked me how he should help me and I told him that I was facing financial challenges in recording and airing my music. He told me he will see what to do and went to sit down with other leaders including area Governor Josphat Nanok."

He further exclaimed that the day remains to be one of his most memorable moments.

The father of three told the Standard that indeed he received the money promised to him by the Deputy President.

Ekidor mentioned: "I received the cash in a brown envelope on Saturday evening as the DP was boarding his chopper and it dawned on me that his promise came to pass. If I decide to share the amount with my relatives, it will not be enough. I need to sit down and plan.

“I do not want to let down the DP. When he asks about me in the near future, he should find out that I have scaled higher heights in the music industry,” he added.
