Western Leaders Back Governor Wycliffe Oparanya's Presidential Bid

Forty-two MCAs from Vihiga, Kakamega, Bungoma, and Busia counties have endorsed Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya’s presidential bid in 2022.

The group led by Benard Kitila, an MCA from Busia County, announced they have faith in Oparanya's ability to stir the country in the right direction.

The endorsement was made on Sunday during a church service held at Ekwanda ACK church on the border of Vihiga and Kisumu counties.

Oparanya, his Vihiga counterpart Wilber Ottichilo, Luanda MP Chris Omulele and Shinyalu MP Justus Kizito were also in attendance at the church service.

Earlier on Oparanya had urged his party leader Raila Odinga as well as leaders from the Western region to drop their 2022 presidential bids and rally behind his candidature.

The governor had urged Odinga to pay back the support he had accorded him throughout his past presidential bids and back him in 2022.

“I have been supporting you all this time during your ambitions for the top office in this country, but now it’s time for you to support me,” Oparanya to Odinga.

He had further called on ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and his Ford Kenya counterpart Moses Wetangula to join his bandwagon, calling them cowards for snubbing the controversial January 30 Odinga mock swearing-in at Uhuru Park.

On Wednesday Oparanya was shouted down as he addressed a crowd during Raila Odinga's tour of Kakamega town.

He ran into the hostile crowd while in the company of governors Hassan Joho and Charity Ngilu, Senator Cleophas Malala and MP Elsie Muhanda.
