Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga on Tuesday announced the end of the economic boycott that was the hallmark of the resistance movement he launched after the August polls.
Speaking during the labour day celebrations at Uhuru Park, the opposition leader stated that the end of the boycott was one of the agreements in his new deal with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
"Today I announce the end of the economic boycott by the resistance movement. Hii tulifanya ili kuunganisha wakenya. Tunajua shida zinazokumba taifa letu. Tunataka kufanya jambo ambalo litaleta suluhisho la kudumu (This we are doing to unite all Kenyans. We know what problems are in our society and we want to take action to resolve these issues)" he stated.

He added that after President Uhuru and himself had taken the oaths, they commenced on their journey to healing the country after a prolonged electioneering period.
In line with labour day celebrations, Raila conveyed: "Nimekuja kujiunga na wafanyi kazi (I have come to unite with all workers. We have a big workforce in our country and most of them are youthful and looking for jobs.
"This is why we in NASA are in agreement with Jubilee in matters job creation, universal healthcare, poverty and food security."
On his part, COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli expressed optimism with the new partnership between Raila and President Kenyatta.
He added that workers were still suffering because some of the president's directives had not been implemented.
"The President removed taxation on benefits, bonus and overtime performed for those earning less that Ksh 100,000 in 2016 but to date this has not been gazetted. This shows that some people in the government are not taking his directive seriously.
"I call upon the CS to make sure this is implemented. If you have good working relationships we will minimize strikes We have to reason together- Kenyans want equity, fair sharing of our national resources and jobs for all," he stated.
