New Company Formed As Cambridge Analytica Closes Down

Cambridge Analytica hit global headlines in Mid-March after being exposed over the firm's interference and psychological manipulation in elections including in Kenya's 2017 Presidential Elections.

One month later, the company that acquired private user data from Facebook is said to have closed down its business after running out of customers as a result of the televised expose.

However, a new company named Emerdata has already allegedly been set up to explore the vacuum created by Cambridge Analytica's exit.

Reports indicate that the new company has been formed by the former executives at the scandal-hit political research firm Cambridge Analytica.

Public filings at Britain's Companies House indicate that Emerdata was incorporated in August 2017 with suspended Cambridge Analytica Chief Executive Alexander Nix and Cambridge Analytica parent firm SCL Group chairman Julian Wheatland listed as directors.

On March 16, 2018, Rebekah and Jennifer Mercer, daughters of hedge fund tycoon Robert Mercer were appointed to the board of Emerdata.

The company was formed by Wheatland together with Cambridge Analytica's chief data officer, Alexander Tayler.

Although  its not clear what business Emerdata engages in, the company is listed at Britain's Companies House under "data processing, hosting, and related activities."

The company also shares an address with Cambridge Analytica's parent, SCL Group in Canary Wharf Building complex, London.

President Uhuru Kenyatta strongly denied any ties with controversial marketing research firm Cambridge Analytica as alleged by an undercover report where Mark Turnbull was filmed admitting to running the 2013 and 2017 campaigns for Kenyatta.
