Anyang' Nyong'o Suspends All Road Projects in Kisumu

Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o has suspended all road projects in the county over the ongoing heavy rains.

In a statement sent out to newsrooms, Nyong'o explained that the rains had disrupted the works as machines kept breaking down.

He further noted that the overall quality of the roads would be compromised by the rains.

The Governor disclosed that many of the 115 sites where work was ongoing had already been rendered inaccessible.

He affirmed that the suspension would be in place until the rains subsided.

Speaking at Labour Day Celebrations held at Uhuru Park, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko announced that the rains had stopped construction work on roads across the country.

He explained that to fully deal with the issue of dilapidated roads, other challenges such as drainage needed to be addressed first.

"I know there is a drainage problem in Nairobi… there is also a road problem in Nairobi… but you can see the current weather… We cannot build roads on top of sewage, we cannot build roads without fixing drainage in Nairobi. Unless we want to waste public funds,” he stated.

The latest report from the Kenya Meteorological Department indicates that the rains will continue until May 14.

The most affected areas include parts of the Lake Victoria Basin, Western, Central and South Rift Valley, Central (including Nairobi ) and Coast.
