The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has urged prospective applicants to be wary of social media pages impersonating the service.
In a statement on Monday, July 28, KUCCPS pointed out that the acronym was a core part of its identity and distanced itself from unverified accounts purporting to share updates from the institution.
It pointed out one such Facebook page going by "Kuccps News" and warned students that the page was not an official communication channel affiliated with KUCCPS.
“Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has noted with concern theft and misuse of its identity on online and social media platforms.
“Specifically, KUCCPS wishes to distance itself from a Facebook Page going by the name "Kuccps News" that is impersonating the institution.”
As such, the placement service warned that anyone engaging with this page or similar ones, or the individuals operating them, does so at their own risk. KUCCPS would not accept responsibility for any information posted on these platforms.
It also urged anyone who has already fallen victim to such pages to report the matter to the police.
“The acronym KUCCPS is a core component of the identity and intellectual property of the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service,” it emphasised.
“Its unauthorised use is not only deceptive to the public but also constitutes a violation of the law.”
This advisory comes just days after the KUCCPS portal was reopened for inter-institution transfer, which will take place between July 14 and August 24.
In its announcement, it clarified that the changes to courses and institutions would only be availed to applicants who meet the applicable cut-off points.
The portal was also recently reopened to allow students from the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) to apply for the September intake in 28 remaining courses. The process is set to close on July 29.
