IG Joseph Boinnet Shocked by Landgrabbing in Nyeri

Police Inspector General (IG) Joseph Kipchirchir Boinnet has expressed his sheer disbelief on how daring land grabbers acquired land belonging to the National Police Service valued at Ksh 20 million.

According to Boinnet, that single act epitomized how corrupt individuals are determined to stop at nothing in their bid to see their corrupt schemes thrive.

Boinnet was speaking at Karatina Police Station, Nyeri where the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) handed back to the Police Service parcels of land that had been grabbed by private developers.

He further noted the collaboration between police and the public has led to the successful recovery of the 12 grabbed parcels of land belonging to the Police Station.

The police boss dismissed claims that the police service had invited EACC to investigate corruption at the service.

He revealed that contrary to the reports, EACC had been invited to conduct a system audit and not investigations as alleged by some sources.

"We always invite EACC to conduct a systems audit every year but unfortunately last year due to electioneering period we couldn't.

"Let me be categorically clear on this, the EACC is not coming to investigate but just a normal systems audit," Boinnet stated.

Speaking at the event, the EACC boss Eliud Wabukala said that the commission has so far recovered assets worth Ksh6 Billion.

Wabukala further warned that the commision will not relent in the fight against corruption cases in the country warning those that hide under the guise of ethnicity and political affiliation that they will not be spared.
