Former Justice Minister Martha Karua on Wednesday admitted to the High Court that she had lied about lost evidence in the election petition against Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru.
The former gubernatorial candidate had earlier accused court registrars of losing a flash disk that contained video evidence of her claim that the Kirinyaga governor bribed voters.
She clarified to the court that she had not submitted the flash disk with her initial affidavits.
Karua had sternly asked the court to take action against the court officials for the alleged lost evidence which she claimed had mysteriously disappeared.

"There is a wide conspiracy. Court has a duty to get to the bottom of the matter. It is incumbent upon this court to exhaust its own internal inquiry. Bring the person who wrote the receipt to explain," Karua urged.
Gitobu Imanyara, Karua’s lawyer added: "We are operating on timelines. The aim is to delay prosecution of the case, buying time and abusing court process."
The former gubernatorial candidate had claimed that the disk was submitted on September 6, 2017.
She had further castigated Governor Waiguru’s lawyers for demanding that a formal application be made before the video evidence was admitted to the court.
Karua’s team further accused the respondents of witness tampering.
"There has been a number of interferences of petitioner witnesses. One witness has withdrawn. Another witness by the name Mercy Kangi was called via phone by a person identified as Kamwaki.
"There are attempts to interfere with witnesses and should be stopped," Imanyara stated.
