List of 15 Nairobi Estates That Will Go Without Water

The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) has issued a notice to 15 Nairobi estates that will go without water for at least 24 hours.

This came after a contractor who was installing a new water pipeline burst a major pipe that was channelling water to the estates.

According to NCWSC Managing Director Nahason Muguna, the old water pipeline burst at Kugeria Estate, Kiambu County while the new water pipeline runs from Kiambu to Embakasi.

The estates that will be affected include Thome, Kasarani, Zimmerman, Githurai 45, Githurai 44, Mwiki, Kahawa Wendani, Kahawa Sukari, Kayole, Komarock, Umoja 2, Baraka, Kahawa barracks, Njiru and Ruai.

Some sections of Kamiti road, Thika road, Mwiki road and Kagundo road are expected to be affected by the water pipe burst.

"The engineers and the contractor have been mobilized at the scene. Repair works have commenced and are expected to take 24 hours," Muguna revealed.

The water supply in the affected estates is expected to resume on Sunday, May 13, 2018, by 6 pm.

Water shortage and rationing have been a major concern in Nairobi especially with the dwindling water levels at Ndakaini Dam.

Ndakaini contributes about 84 percent of the total supply to Nairobi County residents; an estimated 430,000 cubic meters of water daily.

The government recently announced the launch of a committee to investigate the cause of the low water levels in Ndakaini despite the heavy rainfall experienced in most parts of the country.
