Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho Pledges to Work With Jubilee Leaders

Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho on Sunday confessed that he had been secretly meeting with Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi prior to the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Speaking during a tree planting exercise in Shanzu, Mombasa, the governor disclosed that the senator and he were good friends who were kept away from each other due to their political inclinations during the 2017 elections.

"The Kiambu Senator has been a friend of mine from a while back, even before I got into politics and let me confess, last year when things were heated politically, I was meeting with these guys in the secrecy of the night," he stated.

He added that the historic handshake had changed the political terrain in the country to facilitate their show of unity publicly.

“It is because of the handshake that we are here and I want to welcome the leaders who have come. Were it not for the handshake we would not have met here,” Joho stated.

The Mombasa governor pledged that he was ready to work with his counterparts in Jubilee to address issues affecting Kenyans.

“NASA leaders are the best, and I want to say that our good leaders will unite with the good ones in Jubilee and work together. We are very happy to work with the national government because we will now be in a position to sort out a lot of issues affecting our people,” he conveyed.

On his part, Senator Wamatangi expressed optimism in the new-found unity among the political leaders.

"Come with your people (addressing Joho) we work together because in Jubilee we are good people. We want to unite Kenyans," he stated.
