The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) on Monday stated that it will hold the government accountable by playing its oversight role as the opposition in Parliament.
The Party's Secretary General Edwin Sifuna told Kenyans.co.ke that they had called for action over the alleged new National Youth Service (NYS) scandal.
Sifuna maintained that the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga will not hinder the Party from exposing graft allegations and calling for the arrest and prosecution of those found culpable.
"We have stated this today that whether the handshake is in motion or not ODM will play its role in Parliament. The handshake team is also expected to come up with structures that will help fight corruption in this country," the ODM secretary general stated.

"We shall also push the government to make sure anyone involved in stealing from the public should face the law," he added.
Reports emerged that NYS was facing a new Ksh10.5 billion scandal, dealing a fresh blow to President Uhuru Kenyatta’s fight against corruption.
The money was allegedly syphoned from the institution in the last three years, according to multiple sources, in a well-orchestrated scheme involving senior government officials and ghost suppliers.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) instituted investigations late last year and its findings revealed a trail of plundering of hard-earned taxpayers’ money.
Notably, reports revealed that as many as 41 people, whom the DCI stated should be held criminally responsible for the systematic looting, face arrest.

The plundering of NYS money involved paying ghost suppliers at the expense of genuine ones and also ghost suppliers getting double payments using the Ifmis.
