Polycarp Igathe Lands Equity Bank Job

Former Nairobi County Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe has joined Equity Bank as the Chief Commercial Officer.

This comes four months after he resigned as Governor Mike Sonko's assistant, citing failure to earn the trust of his boss.

There was a lot of speculation over his next destination and he was tipped to take over reigns at several top companies in the country.

When he relinquished his county job, the governor admitted that he was surprised at the move but vowed to soldier on.

In his statement, Igathe had mentioned that he would continue serving Nairobi but in a different capacity.

“I regret I have failed to earn the trust of the Governor to enable me to drive Admin & Management of the county.

"Without fear, favour or ill will I step down to avoid abusing or betraying my oath of office to Kenyans, Nairobians and my family. Thank you for the encouraging support given to me so far,” he said in a post on his Twitter account in January.

Sonko is yet to name his deputy four months down the line and through his social media, he recently announced that he had also shortlisted Ministry of Public Works, Youth and Gender Affairs Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Rachel Shebesh, former Nominated Senator Elizabeth Ongoro, businesswoman Agnes Kagure and Nairobi lawyer Karen Nyamu.

Citizen TV journalist Anne Kiguta was also listed.

A section of Nairobi MCAs on Monday gave Sonko seven days to nominate a deputy governor or face legal action.

Led by minority chief whip Peter Imwatok, the Ward Reps maintained that the county is in a turmoil because the governor lacked a deputy to advise him.

Imwatok told a press conference at City Hall stated: “We see how the county is, garbage everywhere, roads are in bad condition and all the blame is directed at the governor. He needs a deputy to advise him and do some of these jobs, especially supervisory.”

The MCA added: “We don’t care about the tribe. Nairobi has many people, professionals. All we want is a deputy."
