3 oil tankers exploded in an illegal yard in Avda Estate near Toll Station in Ruiru, Kiambu County.
The Tuesday night incident sparked panic as area residents saw fire and smoke coming from the yard before hearing a series of loud explosions.
Oil is said to have leaked to the trenches around the yard and the area is currently being manned by several Administration Police officers.
The scene was completely cordoned off and even journalists were not allowed access to the area.
Police warned that there was still a possibility that another fire could be easily triggered, explaining that the measures were meant to ensure public safety.

Juja OCPD Peter Manyasi maintained that investigations would establish the cause of the fire and subsequent explosions.
Area residents disclosed that the yard is usually used as an illegal oil siphoning base.
One of them explained that unknown individuals siphon the oil from tankers to barrels and drums.
Other than the three tankers that were completely burnt down, one more caught fire at the front part.
No injuries or casualties were recorded as a result of the explosion.
