Senator Johnson Sakaja Reveals Major Loophole in Uhuru Raila Deal

Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja explained that there is a major loophole in the handshake deal between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Speaking during a presser in Mombasa, the lawmaker noted that it was pointless to make plans for the future generations without engaging youth.

“You cannot build bridges for the future without the youth. Young people will not only be involved but also spearhead activities across the country."

Sakaja, who is Chairman of the Kenya Young Parliamentarians Association (KYPA), maintained he regretted that youth were used to perpetrate violence, hatred and other vices that politicians use to gain power.

"They are the ones who suffer the most when things go awry. We will not allow another drop of Kenyan blood to ever be shed in the pursuit of political power," the Senator remarked.

“We must not allow the vicious cycle of hate and the ethnic chauvinism, of looking at someone based on name instead of character, to go on in our country,” he added.

Sakaja maintained that although there is a council of elders, the Parliamentarians will also be taking up the initiative as young leaders and traverse across the country uniting people.

KYPA members met in Mombasa where they elected new leaders since the organisation is made up of politicians who are 35 years old or younger.

The legislators also appointed a 14-member team to spearhead the peace programme that will address issues dividing Kenyans.

“On matters of youths, there is no politics. We don’t look at each other as Jubilee or NASA. We work together,” he noted. “We assure young people that we are at the forefront of fighting for their rights," Sakaja stated.
