42 Suspects in Ksh9 Billion NYS Scandal, Families Barred From Travelling Abroad

The wife of a top suspect in the recent Ksh9 Billion National Youth Service (NYS) scandal was barred from travelling to China soon after her husband was linked to the scandal.

The woman was informed that she could no longer travel as planned until her husband was fully investigated in connection with the corruption case. Her husband was named as one of the top suppliers at NYS.

The authorities further explained that all suspects along with their immediate families had been grounded in the same way.

Sources confirmed that the names of the suspects and their families had been flagged on the no-fly list and would be required to have government clearance before they travel.

Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss George Kinoti on Sunday announced that 42 officials and businessmen had been summoned to appear for questioning at the DCI headquarters on Monday.

"We have summoned all those who have been mentioned, whether they are government officials or directors of companies, whether existing or phantom.

"We don't want to frame anyone. We want to ensure once we send the files to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), we're on the same page with the accused so that they don't come to complain that they were framed.

"We have summoned them to explain their cases that we have so far developed," he stated.

The DCI boss further explained that some of the suspects would be required to outline their sources of wealth.

"Some of them are extremely rich and live a lifestyle that you cannot imagine. they will get a chance to explain all that," Kinoti explained.
