DPP Files Appeal Against Pastor James Ng'ang'a

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on Tuesday stated they had filed an appeal challenging the acquittal of Pastor James Ng’ang’a.

Earlier on, the Neno Evangelism Pastor had been charged with causing the death of a woman in a fatal car crash.

“The @ODPP_KE has today filed Criminal Appeal No. 34 of 2018 at the Kiambu High Court in relation to the acquittal of Apostle Ng’ang’a and four others by a Limuru Magistrate’s Court,” the DPP’s office stated.

Pastor Ng’ang’a and his co-accused were facing four charges, among them, causing death by dangerous driving.

However, Chief Magistrate Godfrey Oduor dismissed the case on May 4 stating that the prosecution had failed to place the clergyman at the scene of the accident.

Magistrate Oduor, further maintained that it could not be ascertained whether Pastor Ng’ang’a was driving the car during the fatal crash at Manguo area in Limuru on July 26, 2015.

The Office of the DPP termed the acquittal as erroneous, noting that the magistrate released the pastor without giving reasons.

Notably, inconsistencies by key prosecution witnesses in the case led to his acquittal and that of three others by a Limuru court.

The family of Mercy Njeri, the woman who did in the accident allegedly caused by Pastor Ng’ang’a maintained they were going to appeal his acquittal.

It was alleged that Ng’ang’a’s Range Rover Sports KCD 060Q was being driven carelessly on August 26, 2015, causing Njeri’s death. The vehicle collided head-on with a Nissan March, registration KBZ 709W, at Manguo, Limuru.
