Why Kenyans Are Now Defending Ann Wambere Wanjiku Over NYS Scandal

A section of Kenyans has taken to social media in defense of Anne Wambere Wanjiku Ngirita, the woman who received Ksh60 million in the Ksh9 Billion NYS scandal.

Wanjiku disclosed how she had been awarded a Local Purchase Order (LPO) worth Ksh60 million at the NYS Gilgil offices.

In a shocking revelation, the woman stated: "I don’t know what I supplied but I was shown the vouchers at the DCI. I'm not aware of the procurement process as I have never been involved in any."

Even as her name made the headlines and her face splashed on the front pages of national newspapers, Wanjiku went on to intimate: "I do not own anything. No vehicle, no land or money invested in a sacco or any company."

Despite the fury following the second NYS scandal, some Kenyans felt that she was being used as a scapegoat as was the case of the infamous Josephine Kabura.

Our media is also not serious. Please give us the big names and plaster their faces on the front pages like you've done to this one. It's a start but you can do better. This slay queen definitely didn't even smell a huge chunk of what was deposited into her account #NYSscandal pic.twitter.com/dLwbVMVZ2l

What an unfortunate headline. It isn't fair at all. Where are the photos of the head of procurement, the head of finance, the CEO and head of internal audit? Those are the real culprits. pic.twitter.com/KRFeWpJ8kp

CONGRATULATIONS @dailynation: You name and publish the photo of the lady who went to NYS procurement to be allowed to supply air but you FAIL to name the NYS procurement officer and the bank through which the 60M was laundered #NYSscandal

Others expressed concern that the naming of Wanjiku was being used as a distractor after the damning revelations on the scamdal.

Exactly all these are side shows, memes to distract from real perpetrators

Following the revelation, Kenyans came out venting their frustrations with the galloping corruption in the country and offering ingenious solutions to the menace.

Wah! Being a Kenyan is a painful experience. That the govt cannot build a 600m access road to my estate but then i see this! We need to go to the streets to protest. Any street match about corruption i will participate. @thekhrc @johngithongo

Something seriously wrong with Kenya. And this will also go catwalking freely

When you steal taxpayers money that would for example be used to ensure mothers deliver safely or immunize babies, you are the cause of death of thousands. Corruption should be made a capital offence in Kenya. Stepping aside and other jokes need to end. pic.twitter.com/MNaKoZUc8O

— Kenyan Experience (@KenyanExperien2) May 24, 2018

It is difficult to find temperate words to apply to the theft happening in NYS. The situation can only be described as pathetic. It shocks the public conscience that despite huge sums of money being siphoned from the institution, no one has been brought to book. #NYSscandal

— Abou Oscar (@Tershmmoja) May 24, 2018

You are very right. To call it a scandal is to limit people's perception of the mess we are in. NYS, KPA, NCPB etc. This is organized crime.
