Rugby Sevens Shujaa Team Appointed as Global Ambassadors for Kenya

The Kenya 7s team was on Thursday appointed global ambassadors for Kenya to Market the country as the best destination for Tourists, Meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE), business and Investments.

Making the announcement, Brand Kenya board director Chris Diaz stated that the ambassadorship program was meant to recognize individuals who embody the values and personalities that define the Kenya brand.

“This partnership will provide Brand Kenya with the platform to engage both the local and international community with positive messaging about Kenya.

"Having Shujaa as part of the country’s global ambassadors will enable the board to activate a local and global campaign, given that rugby remains one of the biggest social events in the world," he conveyed.

On his part, Kenya Rugby Union Chairman Richard Omwela expressed his gratitude in the recognition that the team had been accorded with the appointment.

"We thank brand Kenya for coming through at a very difficult time. We are happy that rugby plays a significant part in promoting Kenya as a destination,” he stated.

The Partnership is meant to last the next eight months covering London 7s to Sydney 7s.

The Kenyan rugby team has been impressive with their latest achievement making it to the Hong Kong Sevens after beating New Zealand in the semi-finals.

Shujaa's prospects in the final two legs of the World Seven Series in Paris and London look good with Dennis Ombachi and Oscar Ayodi being recalled to the Kenya Sevens squad.
