Senators Johnson Sakaja and Cleophas Malala Unveil New Unity Team

Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja and his Kakamega counterpart Cleophas Malala unveiled their own 'Building Bridges' team.

The two senators had raised concerns over the unity team unveiled by President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga noting that it did not have a representation of the youth.

During the launch of the new team in Mombasa, Sakaja stated: “We want this team to have representation from across all the counties."

The team will be led by June Ndegwa as the chairperson (Jubilee) and Fahad Kassim as Vice-chair (ODM).

Apart from the two, nine members were also picked from the former provinces as regional representatives.

Sakaja and Malala maintained that they will remain the co-patrons of the team and will kick start countrywide engagements to rally the youth behind the unity pact.

Last month Malala threatened to name a parallel unity team if President Kenyatta and Odinga failed to add add two slots for the youth.

In April, President Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga appointed a team of 14 advisors to steer national dialogue on building bridges initiative.

The 14 persons included: Dr. Adams Oloo, Agnes Kavindu, Senator Amos Wako, Ms. Florence Omose, Prof. Saeed Mwanguni, James Matundura, Major (rtd) John Seii, Bishop Lawi Imathiu,  Maison Leshomo, Senator Mohamed Yusuf Haji, Morompi Ole Ronkai, Bishop Peter Njenga, Makueni County Women rep Rose Moseo and Zacchaeus Okoth.
