Video of Matiang'i Criticising Indians Causes Mixed Reactions

A video of Interior CS Fred Matiang'i criticising Indians at a construction site has caused mixed reactions after he stated that they were doing a job that many Kenyans are capable of.

The video believed to have been recorded at Nyayo House was shared online and the CS had some tough words for the two foreigners who had allegedly been in the country since 2013 and were managing a construction site.

"Aren't there Kenyans who can work as site managers? We have many Kenyans who can do this.

"We need to categorise these things. How can you give someone a work permit to be a site manager? These things really annoy me. We cannot accept this," an enraged Matiang'i told Interior PS Gordon Kihalangwa.

Matiang’i noted that many youth remained jobless while some foreigners were employed in positions that can be occupied by Kenyans

The video has been received differently with some Kenyans supporting the CS while others criticised him for how he handled the situation.

This comes a few days after he announced a crackdown on foreign workers whose working permits have expired but are still in the country.

Foreigners had been asked to submit their work permits for verification, after which they would be issued with electronic cards.

Those found to be in the country illegally or with fraudulent documents were to be deported, according to the CS.

By Wednesday, Immigration officers had nabbed 10 foreigners who had fake documents.

A section of them was forced to register afresh after they discovered they had fake papers and were in the country illegally.

Cartels outside Nyayo House had allegedly duped them, promising to process their papers quickly.
