CBD Gang Robbing Residents Using Alleged Lethal Injection

A new gang using syringes alleged to be filled with a lethal substance has emerged in the Nairobi CBD robbing unsuspecting residents.

The gangs made of two to three members each operate in broad daylight and apprehend their singled-out vulnerable targets by blocking their way.

Once they surround their target, the gang fishes out syringes filled with an unknown substance and threaten to inject if one fails to comply with their demands.

The criminals then order their victims to hand over their phones, wallets, bags and other valuables.

Their favourite operation base includes OTC area in downtown Nairobi, a section of Race Course Road, and the area near St Peter's Claver Catholic Church.

Also targeted are some parts of Ronald Ngala including the Matatu terminus and near the Nairobi Bus Station.

One victim narrated how he lost his phone after the gang held a syringe close to his chest, threatening to empty its content in his body if he did not hand it over.

Another would-be victim narrowly escaped after he was rescued from the gang by a matatu tout who shoved him into his vehicle.

Cases of daylight robberies targeting both pedestrians and commuters have rocked the city at different times but significantly peak on the onset of festive seasons.

Operations by the police in the past have seen the gangs go underground only to reemerge with new, deadly tactics.
