The statement indicated that the militants were trying to infiltrate the country through the counties of Wajir, Mandera, and Garissa.

"A group of terrorists led by one Ibrahim Mohammed alias Shariff Lin Kulul has been hiding in the Mountainous region of Gedo within Somalia and may be planning to stage attacks on the Kenyan side," the statement read.

Kulul has in the past sent one Ahmed Dabar to look for targets to attack in Mandera and Wajir counties including government employees.

One of the suspects, Dabar, is said to have taken part in the February 2018 terror attack on teachers at Qarsa Primary School in Wajir.

The other, Osman, is suspected to be hiding in Gedo having gone to Somalia in 2016 with his mother and wife said to be complicit in his terror activities.

"We wish to caution the public to be extra vigilant with those trying to abuse the Holy Month of Ramadhan by staging terrorist attacks," the warning adds.

While assuring the public of continued surveillance by the police, the NPS asked the members of the public to be vigilant.
