Mombasa to Host 79th SKÅL International World Congress 2018

Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho on Wednesday announced that the county was gearing up to host the 79th International Association of Travel and Tourism Professionals (SKÅL) World Congress 2018.

After successfully bidding for the event, Mombasa will host the Congress from 17th to 21st October 2018 at Pride Inn Paradise and Resort in Mombasa.

Joho noted that this was the first time the event would be held in Kenya.

"The @SKAL_Intl delegation led by SKÅL President @SaariSusanna paid me a courtesy call at my office. The delegation is impressed with the progress made by the local organizing committee led by Skål Kenya Coast President @VMShitakha and Mombasa Tourism CECM @RashidFawz.

"Members will have the opportunity to meet with experts who will offer insights into trends and emerging technologies in the travel and tourism market, plus finding ways to improve the business and stay competitive in the current economic climate," he stated.

Earlier on, Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala warned that the garbage menace would disrupt the conference if not resolved.

Balala warned that some delegations could cancel stating: “We should do damage control quickly before we get cancellations."

Skål is a professional organisation of tourism leaders around the world, promoting global tourism and friendship.

It is the only international group uniting all branches of the travel and tourism industry. Its members, the industry's managers and executives, meet at local, national, regional and international levels to "Do Business Among Friends".

Skål International today has approximately 15,000 members in 400 Clubs throughout over 90 countries. Most activities occur at the local level, moving up through National Committees, under the umbrella of Skål International, headquartered at the General Secretariat in Torremolinos, Spain.
