MPs Choir Perform at National Prayer Breakfast

A section of legislators forming the parliamentary choir on Thursday performed at the National Prayer Breakfast at Safari Park hotel in Nairobi.

The Members of Parliament sang a hymn; "Lord of Glory" displaying poor synchronization of the song while a number of the members singing in an off key.

Before their performance, they issued a disclaimer: "We have done some practice, some members might struggle with the words but that is okay."

As they began singing, some of the guests could be seen laughing at the MPs as someone was clearly heard saying:"Oh my goodness that is horrible."

The reactions online were not forgiving either with one user stating: "Sing? I don't know. But they sure can have a 700% increase pension."

Another noted that the MPs had prepared poorly for the performance.

Among the MPs in the choir included: Murang'a Woman Representative Sabina Chege, Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja, Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, Makueni MP Dan Maanzo and Senator Irungu Kang'ata.

When Deputy President William Ruto took to the podium poking fun at the choir.

"I was having a chat with the president, he told me that from the singing of these people it is obvious that their talents lie elsewhere," he quipped as the whole room erupted in laughter.

Opposition leader Raila Odinga was present at the event where he gave a speech on uniting the country.

"If Rabin and Arafat could shake hands, Mandela could shake hands with de Klerk, I said, what's wrong with Raila Odinga shaking hands with Uhuru Kenyatta?

"Before we shook hands, we had a very long discussion. We took a journey down memory lane, where it started, and we asked where the rain began to beat us as Kenyans,"

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka on his part stated: "Today we are moving from the handshake to the hug- how beautiful would that be if the hug would take place in every village in our country People are still hurting out there- let us reach out to them."
