Louis Otieno Sets 5 Conditions in Careen Chepchumba Murder Case

Former news anchor Louis Otieno has set 5 conditions ahead of a fresh probe into the murder of his alleged ex-girlfriend Careen Chepchumba.

In a letter signed by his lawyer Norman Magaya and sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji on May 30, Otieno stated that the father to the deceased, Hosea Kili, and her brother Emmanuel Kili should also undergo DNA tests.

Otieno had previously testified in court that Chepchumba confided in him that she had been abused sexually by her father and other relatives.

In the letter to the DPP, Otieno noted that he was ready to co-operate with authorities to establish the truth but asserted that Hosea and Emmanuel Kili should be subjected to a DNA tst as well.

“We write to notify your good office that our client is agreeable and willing to cooperate with your office as may be required of him so as to unravel the truth and ensure the ends of justice are met,” the letter read in part.

He maintained that a ruling by former Kibera senior resident magistrate Charles Ondieki which resulted in the fresh probe had procedural lapses.

Ondieki had accused police of bungling the case by, among other things, mixing up nail clippings meant for analysis and failing to carry out forensic analysis of phone records.

He ordered fresh investigations and recommended that Otieno visit the government chemist to have samples of his nail clippings taken afresh.

Otieno also wants an analysyis of Chepchumba's telehone co-ordinates for the period she was allegedly murdered along with those of Hosea and Emmanuel Kili.

He further demanded that original statements recorded by security guards at Santonia court Apartments be availed as he believes they confirm that he did not visit Chepchumba during the week she was murdered.
