3 Men Badly Beaten for Slaughtering Donkeys

Three men are nursing serious injuries at a Naivasha Hospital after receiving heavy beating from an angry mob on Wednesday, after they were caught slaughtering stolen donkeys in Mai Mahiu.

The four donkeys were said to have disappeared in the morning from a nearby farm before the suspects were caught cutting and packing the meat in bags.

Police said the accused were under their watch in the hospital, and would be arraigned in Court to face charges.

“We wish to ask members of the public to stop taking the law into their hands and instead inform police so that necessary actions can be taken,” said a police officer who sought anonimity.

According to an eye witness, Joseph Njoroge, the suspects were beaten up by angry residents, who were searching for the donkeys, before police officers rescued them.

“We have lost so many donkeys here and we wanted to send a message to those involved in this trade that we will not sleep until we eradicate the menace,” he was quoted by the Star

Nakuru County has also recorded an increase in chicken theft, owing to the festive activities as the year ends.
