3 Perish, Scores Injured in Weekend Accidents

Three people lost their lives, following a deadly road accident along the Narok- Bomet Highway

The unfortunate incident occurred on Saturday when a bus ferrying bread to Bomet rammed head on into a Narok bound matatu.

Two of the matatu passengers died on the spot while a third succumbed to injuries as he was being taken to hospital.

Speaking to The Star, Narok South police boss Philip Kipkirui said the police were carrying out investigations into the possibility of the lorry driver having dozed off as he hit the matatu on it's (matatu) lane.

The matatu driver, conductor and five other passengers were rushed to Tenwek Mission Hospital where they were admitted.

The lorry driver and the turn boy who escaped with minor injuries were taken to Longisa Referral Hospital.

Meanwhile, passengers on a long distance bus were left counting themselves lucky after the bus lost control and rolled several times along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway.

More than 10 people were however  injured; seven of them have been admitted at Makindu Hospital, three with serious injuries.

The Sunday incident saw the driver and the bus conductor flee the scene of accident.

Speaking to Citizen News, a traffic boss identified the bus as one of the Chania company fleet and explained that it could have been trying to overtake another vehicle when the driver lost control.

Survivors say that the bus was being driven at a very high speed.
