300 Campaign Coordinators Ditch Waiguru's Camp

Former Devolution Cabinet Secretary (CS) and Kirinyaga gubernatorial aspirant Anne Waiguru on Friday suffered a major loss after 300 top officials of her campaign team abandoned her.

The group comprising of her campaign coordinators announced they had jumped ship and joined incumbent Governor Joseph Ndathi's camp.

In a meeting led by former Ndia parliamentary aspirant, Josphat Mwangi, the officials declared withdrawal of their support for Ms Waiguru, accusing her of being aloof to the issues affecting Kirinyaga residents and turning her back on the coordinators.

“We have now resolved to throw our weight behind Mr Ndathi who will be defending his seat on a Jubilee ticket. We are totally fed up with Waiguru,” declared Mr Mwangi.

Addressing the same forum, Rose Nyaguthii, one of Waiguru's campaigners in Baragwi Ward, lamented that the former CS was not assisting her the team which had helped her garner support in the expansive County.

“She does not answer our phone calls or facilitate us to do campaigns. Ms Waiguru does not even greet the voters. She just waves at a distance as she drives her limousine,” Nyaguthii divulged.

The race for the governor's seat is expected to be heated having also attracted interest from NARC-Kenya leader Martha Karua, who is set to go head to head with Waiguru and Ndathi.
