Raila Odinga's Role in Upcoming Cabinet Reshuffle

A cabinet reshuffle has been reported to be in the works with President Uhuru Kenyatta alleged to have hinted at including Opposition leader Raila Odinga.

The reshuffle will affect a number of Cabinet and Principal Secretaries whose ministries have been mentioned in corruption.

Reports by the Sunday Standard revealed that a source stated that the President has been looking at intelligence reports and will soon “act” and clean out corrupt officials.

The reports further alleged that President Kenyatta could replace them with individuals agreed upon with Raila in consultation with other arms of government.

It is expected that some of Raila’s allies will also feature in the appointments to various boards.

Analysts maintained that this could happen since the terms of board members of close to 40 parastatals and government agencies’ expired last month and have slowly grounding their operations and putting to question any decisions made beyond their tenures.

In recent days Raila has echoed President Kenyatta’s message on corruption and governance, taking caution to measure his condemnation while preparing the ground for any drastic action the Head of State may take in the coming days.

The former Prime Minister is widely credited with bringing the 2015 NYS scandal to public limelight.

President Kenyatta gave the biggest hint yet of the impending make-over after putting government officers on notice of immediate and mandatory vetting exercise involving lie detectors.

“Those who fail the vetting will stand suspended. I expect this exercise to be concluded before the start of the new financial year. You will hear of other tougher actions in the days to come,” the President maintained.

Notably, State House Spokesman Manoah Esipisu dismissed the reports maintaining he was not aware of any looming reshuffle and would not respond to speculation.
