Dennis Itumbi Hits Back at Sunday Papers After Reports on His Alleged Firing

The Secretary of Digital Innovations and Diaspora Communications in the Office of the President Dennis Itumbi on Sunday hit back at reports that his duties at State House had been taken up by other people.

Taking to his social media, Itumbi singled out Sunday newspapers stating that the articles were not based on truth, rather fiction pieces.

"Sunday Newspapers are the home of gossip. Rumour and outright lies on test steroids, page to page - fiction writers hiding their creative falsehood by attributing their art to ghost sources manufactured in newsrooms and sometimes in bars," he tweeted on Sunday.

His hard-hitting response followed an article on the Nation which disclosed that the Presidential Strategic Communication Unit (PSCU) had assumed a low profile following changes in the communications department in the Office of the President.

According to the newspaper, president Uhuru Kenyatta had a new team of advisors such as Alfred Getonga who was in charge of Jubilee’s communication strategies in the 2017 General Election.

As such the Head of State's public messages were done by Getonga's team with Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita taking charge of most of the information from the presidency on twitter.

The Nation further reported that it was not business as usual at State House following the appointment of former Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua as State House Comptroller.

The former reformist Administration Police commandant known for his firm stance has on occasion dissuaded the president from certain actions, the newspaper added.

Additionally, Jubilee MPs who had unfettered access to the president have found it difficult booking an appointment with the changes.

“They would frequent State House or Harambee House with proposals on how to tame Raila, such trips would in the process earn them cash. This is not the case now since Raila is on the President’s side,” a source from the presidency told the Nation.
