Kenyans Question DPP Noordin Haji After Statement on Uhuru's Backing

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) has been the center of attention in the last few weeks as processing and prosecution of culprits in the National Youth Service (NYS) scandal among other corruption cases continues.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji declared that President Uhuru Kenyatta had promised his support as he goes for the big fish implicated in the scandals.

Besides, the director indicated that he is banking on his experience in coordination of inter-agency operations including the office of Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), prosecutors and the Judiciary.

Although the DPP indicated that this would to investigate and prosecute the culprits, Kenyans questioned why he was banking on presidents support given that his institution is constitutionally independent.

So you will only 'touch' those you are permitted by president to touch?

Bwana DPP, "a tiger does not proclaim its tigritude, it pounces". Stop the PR, let us see results. https://t.co/sGa4xGes4o

The DPP shall not require the consent of any person or authority for the commencement of criminal proceedings and in the exercise of his or her powers or functions, shall not be under the direction or control of any person or authority CoK,157(10) https://t.co/qzvukak2Yb

Mr. Haji sounds nervous and frightened all through unticorruption legal action assignment. Seemingly the so called big fish suspects have alarmed worning signs to his office. Who could be the big fish by the way? I wonder why he would rely on President's support in this process!

I don't take PR stunts seriously. U know your mandate is embedded in the Kenyan constitution, not on blessings from anyone. We will know you guys are serious if we hear convictions of not less than 2yrs n recovery of rooted resources. Failure to which, this remains mere gossip;ok?

— Ondari James (@OndariJames) June 5, 2018

As long as you have to wait for him to tell you to do your work, we are doomed.
It's good that there is no opposition in Kenya (for now), otherwise that would have been your only job.

Please refer to the Auditor Generals answer when asked the same question... "he says he has the constitution to back him up " as is mandated, the rest are sideshows n additives

Another section of Kenyans questioned whether the DPP in deed had the capacity and will to fight the big fish as he had asserted or there were still some individuals far out of his reach.

I now understand why out of 9B only the small fish of collective 500M were arrested.A whole whooping 8.5B is still cat walking out there...I can now comprehend(President's support)

What happens if he, the President is the main fish you'll need to catch?

Just asking

— Daisy Amdany (@daisyjerop) June 4, 2018

The president has NIS, DCI, EACC. He knows who steals what, where, how. The DPP is an immediate former deputy director NIS, he knows as much as the president. Wasituchezee akili.

Now that you have said it please put your words into action because we are yet to see the big thieves being arraigned in court, prosecuted and their asset frozen to recover stolen wealth.

Others, however, expressed confidence in the DPP and the work he is doing in apprehending those involved in graft.

Don't leave any stone unturned .......100% support you on this as a Kenyan citizen especially kajiado lands
