Raila Odinga's Hints at Supporting Governor Joho's Presidential Bid

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga's remarks during a dinner with Governor Hassan Joho at the coast have caused suspicions that he plans to endorse the governor's bid for the presidency.

The Opposition Chief noted that he was looking forward to when a Muslim would contest and get elected as President.

"Today, to go for the presidency, one has to look at the tribes that will vote for him. This is not the Kenya we want.

"Hassan Joho can contest and get elected as president. Isn't it? This is the Kenya we want to create," stated Odinga.

During the dinner, he also insisted on calls for constitutional reforms claiming it was part of his plan to have any Kenyan have a jab at the presidency in future.

Odinga cited the election of a 90-year-old as Malaysian head of state after "a younger leader failed to deliver" for instance on corruption.

Joho has often declared his plan to run for the presidency in 2022 and recently hosted Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, further raising eyebrows, given the two are eyeing the top seat.

The governor's bid for the presidency is however under threat as his allies comprising of MPs elected on the ODM party ticket have changed tune.

Kinango MP Benjamin Tayari hit back at Mr Odinga saying he will support Deputy President William Ruto while Coast Parliamentary Group chairman Suleiman Dori, who has numerous times backed the DP for the 2022 presidential race, feels it is utterly unrealistic that a leader from the Coastal region can capture the presidency.

"We do not want to hear these kinds of stories here, go back to your backyard and announce that so that we can know your exact intention," reacted Dori when he spoke during the world environmental day celebrations presided over by the DP in Kwale County.

"This time round we want to be in government and we will work with a leader who wants to bring us development and that is the Deputy President William Ruto," added Mr Dori.
