60 County Employees Fired Over Laziness

Over 60 Siaya county staff were fired on Wednesday over allegations of being lazy and corrupt.

The move was announced by Governor Cornell Rasanga and is meant to reduce cases of corruption in the county.

According to the County Boss, the remaining county workers will undergo fresh vetting to determine whether they are fit for office.

Rasanga had on Saturday ordered Siaya County Secretary David Anyona to sack all corrupt officials in the Finance and Public Works departments.

The Governor indicated that corruption cartels had infiltrated the two departments hence making it hard for his government to fulfill the pledges made to the electorate.

"Suitability tests should be conducted on people who will be hired to work in the departments," he stated.

Rasanga further noted how the roads in the county were in a pathetic state, placing the blame on the Public Works Department workers, who are responsible for supervision and inspection of projects before authorizing payments.

In April, six Siaya county officials were charged with corruption-related offenses which led to a loss of Ksh14.9 million.

Among those charged was Murang’a Deputy County Commissioner Kepha Marube - a former Siaya County secretary.

Charged alongside him were Amos Onyango Okello (chief officer governance), Collins Owino (internal auditor), Zakayo Ojuok (head of procurement), Tobias Oloo, (director supply chain) and Tom Mboya.
