Nation Media Group Names New CEO

Nation Media Group (NMG) on Wednesday announced the appointment of Stephen Gitagama as its new Chief Executive Officer with effect from June 7, 2018.

Prior to his appointment, Mr Gitagama had been serving as the company’s Group Finance Director since 2007.

He had previously worked with Kenya Breweries where he also held the finance director docket.

"The Board of Nation Media Group PLC, is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Stephen Waithaka Gitagama as the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Company," a notice form NMG read in part.

He is also the director of Monitor Publications Limited in Uganda and Mwananchi Communications Limited in Tanzania which are both subordinate companies of PDM (Holdings) Limited which is associated with NMG.

The immediate former CEO, Joe Muganda, who resigned in December 2017 to join Vivo energy in the same capacity.

Editor-in-Chief Tom Mshindi took over the post on an acting capacity before the Board appointed Mr Gitagama to act as CEO in February 2018.

The new CEO holds a Masters of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting option) from the University of Nairobi and is also a Certified Public Accountant of Kenya (CPA-K).

NMG has seen a number of high-profile resignations from late 2017 through to the first few months of 2018.

Former Managing Editor Linus Kaikai, anchors Victoria Rubadiri and Larry Madowo among others quit the station to join Royal Media Services and the British Broadcasting Corporation, Africa respectively.
