Police Raise Alarm on Planned Al-Shabaab Attacks

The National Police Service (NPS) has issued a statement warning Kenyans on a plot by Somali-based terror group Al-Shabaab to carry out a number of attacks in the country.

In a press release seen by Kenyans.co.ke, they disclosed that they had received intelligence confirming that the terrorists were targeting key infrastructure in a number of towns.

The locations listed were Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and and the Coastal region.

The installations targeted by the militants, according to Police, are far flung along the border.

They, however, assured the public that resources had been deployed to counter the threats.

"Our officers are on high alert and will continue monitoring their movements at all times," the statement read in part.

The statement also shed more light on the Wednesday explosion in Garissa that killed 5 General Service Unit (GSU) officers.

A patrol team encountered an IED at 9 am while on the road between Liboi and Harar.

While strongly condemning the attack, the police termed it as an isolated incident that would not deter them in their mission to rid the country of terrorist elements.

They further issued a stern warning to anyone who was aiding the terrorists in any way.
