Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko Issues Statement on Miguna's Nomination

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has issued a statement regarding his next move after Miguna Miguna's nomination for deputy governor was rejected by the Nairobi County Assembly.

After the announcement, Sonko accepted the decision by the assembly stating that: "I’m committed to respecting the decisions of the Nairobi County Assembly without reservations because they represent the sovereignty and infallible will of the great people of Nairobi County."

He stated that he was looking to present another qualified nominee to the County Assembly after due consultations to ensure Nairobi County gets a befitting Deputy Governor to support in service delivery.

"In the meantime, as a County Government, we remain committed to serving Nairobi Residents and ensuring timely and efficient service delivery.

"The Nairobi County Government is working round the clock to take advantage of the pockets of favourable weather that we are currently experiencing to overhaul the roads and other infrastructure which were destroyed by the rains.

"God bless our beloved County of Nairobi. In God I trust," he ascertained.

On Tuesday, County Speaker Beatrice Elachi rejected the nomination citing issues on dual citizenship.

“Pursuant to Standing Order number one of the Assembly, the name of the nominee be referred back to the appointing authority for further validation,” Elachi stated.

Elachi maintained that other required documents, certificate of good conduct, Higher Education Loans Board clearance certificate and Kenya Revenue Authority compliance certificate, were not provided.
