DP William Ruto Responds to President Uhuru's Lifestyle Audit Order

Deputy President William Ruto responded to President Uhuru Kenyatta's order for a lifestyle audit on all public servants.

Addressing school principals at the 43rd Kenya Secondary School Headteachers Association annual conference in Mombasa, DP Ruto stated he will be among the first to take the audit.

“The President pronounced government policy on every public servant to be subjected to a lifestyle audit and it is expected that every public servant will submit themselves for lifestyle audit when that time comes. William Ruto will be among the first for that exercise,” DP Ruto remarked.

He further noted that since President Kenyatta made the announcement, a section of media has been on his case on whether he would comply.

“I can see already, the media has done some work on me. I did expect that the following day it would be someone else, but it is stopped with me. I thought that this lifestyle audit was meant for all public servants?” DP Ruto asked.

“We must all of us go through audit because Kenya is the only country we have. Every one of us must play his or her role to make sure the country moves forward,” he added.

During the official opening of the first phase of the Dongo Kundu by-pass last Friday in Mombasa, President Kenyatta declared all public servants will be subjected to lifestyle audits in an effort to fight corruption in Kenya.

His remarks were echoed by Opposition leader Raila Odinga who challenged President Kenyatta to hire international auditors who cannot be compromised.

A section of leaders allied to the DP, who endorsed the lifestyle audit, also challenged the President to include an inspection of the wealth acquired by his father, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.

Ruto's lieutenant Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi stated: “I saw the other day the President said we should do a lifestyle audit. We are supporting the President 100 percent. Even me Sudi, I should be audited from the time I was a tout till now when I am MP. They should also audit my father when he was a cook at Moi University till now. Everybody should accept that audit.”
