Governor Waiguru to Get Ksh100 Million House

The Kirinyaga County Government is seeking to build a ksh100 million house for area Governor Anne Waiguru.

The move to construct the official residence is contained in the 2018/19 budget approved by the county assembly.

The budget committee defended this allocation citing that it was time that Waiguru, who operates the county from her Sagana home got an official residence.

A source close to the governor confirmed the allocation and indicated that it was done in accordance to the SRC circular dated 23rd October 2016.

He further claimed that Waiguru’s detractors were using the proposal to paint her in bad light not knowing about the directive from Salary and Remuneration Commission (SRC)

“The decision was made in compliance to SRC circular that stated that all governors would start receiving house allowance from the government as of 2019,” he said.

According to the notice by the SRC, the option for county governments paying rent for governor’s houses should cease by 30th June 2019.

The directive by the commission secretary Anne Gitau also has it that the rent paid for governors should not exceed Ksh 200,000  per month for Nairobi, Kisumu and Mombasa Counties and Ksh 100,000 million for other counties.

Waiguru joins a long list of governors who will benefit from high end maisonettes from the county government.

Nyeri county proposed to spend ksh200 million to build a home for Governor Mutahi Kahiga with the money allocated to buying land and funding the architectural design and construction between 2018 and 2022.
