Nine people were killed and 20 others seriously injured on Wednesday morning in a road crash on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway.
Confirming the accident, Makueni County Commissioner Mohammed Maalim stated that the head-on collision involving a bus and a lorry occurred near Sultan Hamud in Makueni County.
"The vehicles collided head-on and went up in flames," he stated.

Maalim disclosed that the injured had been rushed to Kilome Nursing Home for medication while the dead had been taken to Makindu Hospital mortuary.

He added that the police were investigating the cause of the accident.
Earlier in April, a vehicle belonging to Tahmeed bus company caught fire with 39 passengers on board.
The bus that was headed to Dar es Salaam from Mombasa went ablaze at Mwashatani area, along Likoni-Lunga Lunga highway, Kwale county.
Passengers escaped death narrowly with police reports indicating that there were no casualties.
At the time, Lunga Lunga Deputy County Commissioner, Mr Josphat Biwott; “We suspect that the incident was caused by wiring problem in the vehicle."
